Tanya Rakh

thanks to the animals

we live to tell
stories of dark undergrowth
the eyes of dying rivers
a heart in every fire
all doors that did not open
the wind that pushed us through
we are soldered fragments
not designed to stand
with fearless trees in winter
we shiver until spring
on a raft of frozen bones
though the teeth are sharp
though night is long
we travel through the undertow
keep each other warm
thanks to kindred stars
thanks to the animals Just
we survive on soft silence
shadows drenched in light
